Question concerning style guidelines.

Can you categorize a beer based only on the SRM, IBU, and ABV? Tasting the flavor profile would be a huge part of defining the beer, right?

20 SRM
75 IBU
6.4% ABV

It'd be tough to define this, as taste is a big part. English hops? Or American hops? That makes a HUGE difference. If it's a lager, it would be totally different than an ale yeast. It could be a barleywine, an American stout, a specialty beer like an American Black IPA, a Christmas beer, and so on. The taste would decide which one of those styles (or a different style) it would fit in!

yes, making sense here, thank you Yooper. Multiple parameters make the style.

    1. IBU, SRM, ABV
    2. Hops
    3. Yeast
    4. Grains
    5. Malts
    6. Additives

Can you recommend any resources for deciphering the ingredient list into a beer style defined? (instead of starting a new thread)
