So I have the remainders of a starter with some spent wort on top that's been sitting on the counter for probably 6-8 weeks now. Does anyone know how long this would be good for? I've gotten lazy and haven't gotten around to freezing down the yeast, I was thinking I'd pitch some new wort onto it this week since I plan on using it next weekend.

I'm not sure at room temp. Are there any nasties growing on top of the wort?

I would spray the thing where it sits with a starsan spray bottle, decant off the old wort, add fresh (boiled) wort, & see what happens... If it takes off, use it. :)

Someone with more experience with old starters may want to chime in here...

lol... I think 6-8 weeks at room temp is probably overkill. Take a whiff... does it smell like a rotting animal with mold all over it yet?
