this is from the primary of a trippel washed as per the wiki tutorial. It looks like there are two distinct layers. Just wondering???? I guess I'll find out when I make a starter....

Looks pretty good to me. I find that dumping off the top after about 10 minutes gets most of the yucky stuff out. I wind up throwing away so much of what's left behind that I'm not careful to conserve. Just let the big stuff settle out for a bit and then pour off the top. Do that a couple of times and you'll have plenty of yeast.
