Does anyone have experience using a heating element after a scorching incident? Can the element be cleaned to the point where it can continue service?

I now have a fix to controlling power that caused the scorching in the first place.

Remove it and clean it with a scruffy. It should be fine. A soak in PBW will remove the organic material if it remains tough to remove.

I had a severe scorched element on my first rims run. The gunk was really stuck on there. Pbw and scrubbing was not enough. The remaining batches that I ran with that element were all contaminated with the burnt flavor. I kept scrubbing and scrubbing and eventually exposed inner metal, in the next brew day the element popped. Ordered a replacement element and a backup element that night.

Hopefully you have better luck!
