I just started my second batch (2 gal black tea, and 2x 1 gal green tea). The very next day I see some weird black carpet looking like thing in Black tea batch. It is covering half of SCOBY and hanging down all the way to the bottom; yes it is huge. It is mostly under water, and just a bit on top of the SCOBY. I tried to collect a bit of it but it spread out away from the spoon (it had a dust like properties). I have it in my green tea batches too but much less; around SCOBY. What is that?
Here what I have used for this brew:
Filtered water.
Turbinado Raw Sugar (365 brand).
Organic Black tea (2 gal batch).
Organic Green Tea (2x 1 gal batches).
I think that it has something to do with sugar. Does anybody else use Raw sugar?
