I still maintain anything by Johnny Cash is the best drinking song anywhere.

Early one mornin' while makin' the rounds
I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down
I went right home and I went to bed
I stuck that lovin' .44 beneath my head

Got up next mornin' and I grabbed that gun
Took a shot of cocaine and away I run
Made a good run but I ran too slow
They overtook me down in Juarez, Mexico

Late in the hot joints takin' the pills
In walked the sheriff from Jericho Hill
He said Willy Lee your name is not Jack Brown
You're the dirty heck that shot your woman down

Said yes, oh yes my name is Willy Lee
If you've got the warrant just a-read it to me
Shot her down because she made me sore
I thought I was her daddy but she had five more

When I was arrested I was dressed in black
They put me on a train and they took me back
Had no friend for to go my bail
They slapped my dried up carcass in that county jail

Early next mornin' bout a half past nine
I spied the sheriff coming down the line
Ah, and he coughed as he cleared his throat
He said come on you dirty heck into that district court

Into the courtroom my trial began
Where I was handled by twelve honest men
Just before the jury started out
I saw the little judge commence to look about

In about five minutes in walked the man
Holding the verdict in his right hand
The verdict read murder in the first degree
I hollered Lawdy Lawdy, have a mercy on me

The judge he smiled as he picked up his pen
99 years in the Folsom pen
99 years underneath that ground
I can't forget the day I shot that bad ***** down

Come on you've gotta listen unto me
Lay off that whiskey and let that cocaine be

:rockin: I just went to the Aerosmith Concert in Indianapolis last week. So I'd say old Aerosmith tunes. Neil Young is always good drinking music. I've got a Neil Young Concert DVD where he dips his harmonica in Sierra Nevada to give it flavor. Yummy!!!

"Man only counts his disappointments and never his successes." --Fyodor Dostoyevsky

My wife doesn't like me listening to "Cocaine Blues" with the babe in the car anymore.... everytime she hears the "shot that bad ***** down" line, she shoots me a dirty look.

Hands down - In München steht ein Hofbräuhau

4569-BierFrau.jpg

In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus:
Eins, zwei, g'suffa . . .
Da läuft so manches Fäßchen aus:
Eins, zwei, g'suffa . . .
Da hat so manche braver Mann:
Eins, zwei, g'suffa . . .
Gezeigt was er so vertragen kann
Schon früh am Morgen fing er an
Und spät am Abend kam er heraus
So schön ist's im Hofbräuhaus.

1. Da, wo die grüne Isar fließt,
Wo man mit "Grüß Gott" dich grüßt,
Liegt meine schöne Münch'ner Stadt,
Die ihresgleichen nicht hat.
Wasser ist billig, rein und gut,
Nur verdünnt es unser Blut,
Schöner sind Tropfen gold'nen Wein's,
Aber am schönsten ist eins:
In München steht ein . . . . .

3. Wenn auch so manche schöne Stadt
Sehenswürdigkeiten hat,
Eins gibt es nirgendwo wie hier:
Das ist das Münchener Bier.
Wer dieses kleine Lied erdacht
Hat so manche lange Nacht
Über dem Münchener Bier studiert
Und hat es gründlich probiert.
In München steht ein . . . . .

After 2 or 3 liters of German bier, this song to the tune of the Oompa Band just flows off the tip of the tongue while the bier swings back and forth. Ahhh, memories.

A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma!
OK, I've seen your picture, thanks to the " Show your ugly mug" thread. Nothing wrong with a nice girl who just happens to understand the art on fermentation. I do think the quote is cool.

How 'bout David Alan Coe's " Ultimate Country Song" ( Trains, momma, prison)? DAC is a real hardass. His music reflects it.
Also: Anything by the Stones
Black Sabbath
Zeppelin
The Who
Barry Manilow

It has been a while since I have read this thread so forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but has anyone heard "The Sad Ballad of Danny Boy" by Floater?

In Heaven There is no Beer by various people over the years, a real good drinking tune.

Most anything by Stompin Tom Connor (Sudbury Saturday Night, etc)

Barrett's Privateer's by Stan Rogers, maybe the best one ever

I'm not sure if these qualify as drinking songs or not, but there's nothing like playing some Stephen Lynch at a party to make BMC fly out of someone's nose! Yes, I have witnessed this, especially when I play one of these:

Don't suppose you want to do a rough translation?

George Thorogood - One Burbon One Scotch One Beer!

I MUCH prefer the original.

George thorogood and the destroyers was just another white boy coverband at best.

Sorry, just my humble opinion. :D

I agree. Can't STAND that band. Nothing more annoying that a skinny dork with a gravelly voice singing about how tough he is.

I'll 2nd or 3rd that, should be "One Verse, One Chorus, One Riff" since all of his songs sound the same... though I find myself singing or humming along to him sometimes at the bar if it's on and I'm drunk:confused:

One of my favorite drinking songs lately has be "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" by Warren Zevon

I can't believe no one mentioned NightTrain by Guns 'n' Roses. Not really a "sing-along" song, but fun to listen to and certainly a drinking song.

"Wake up late,
Honey, put on your clothes
and take your credit card to the liquor store.
Well that's one for you,
And two for me,
But tonight,
I'll be loaded like a freight train,
Flyin' like an aeroplane
Feeling like a space brain one more time tonight
I'm on the Night Train....."

Guinness boys, the business

beer bong, nofx
chug-a-lug night, guttermouth
beer, murphys law
the wild rover, dropkick murphys
brass monkey, beastie boys

Here's a local GA boy with his band. Check em out at www.zacbrownband.com
Toes is a great drinking song

TOES
I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today. Life is good today.

Well, the plane touched down just about 3 o’clock
And the city’s still on my mind
Bikinis and palm trees danced in my head
I was still in the baggage line
Concrete and cars are there own prison bars like this life I’m living in
But the plane brought me farther.
I’m surrounded by water
And I’m not going back again

I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today. Life is good today.

Adios and vaya con dios
Yeah I’m leaving GA
And if it weren’t for tequila and pretty senoritas
I’d have no reason to stay
Adios and vaya con dios
Yeah I’m leaving GA
Gonna lay in the hot sun and roll a big fat one
And grab my guitar and play

Four days flew by like a drunk Friday night as the summer drew to an end
They couldn’t believe that I just couldn’t leave
And I bid adieu to my friends
Because my bartender she’s from the islands
Her body’s been kissed by the sun
And coconut replaces the smell of the bar and I don’t know if its her or the rum

I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today. Life is good today.

Adios and vaya con dios
A long way from the lake
Its where all the muchachas they call me “big poppa” when I throw pesos their way
Adios and vaya con dios
A long way from GA
Someone do me a favor and pass me the Jaeger
And I’ll grab my guitar and play

Adios and vaya con dios
Going home now to stay
The senoritas don’t care-o when there’s no dinero
You got no money to stay
Adios and vaya con dios
Going home now to stay

With my ass in a lawn chair
And toes in the clay
Not a worry in the world a PBR on the way
Life is good today. Life is good today.

heard that song on the John boy and Billy show the other day, don't typically like that style of music, but was still rather impressed by the song. What about "Light it up" by the Kottonmouth Kings? I know its more of a smoking song, but Ill stick with more legal activites...

the business - drinking and driving
many pogues songs - sally macleanne, streams of whiskey, a pair of brown eyes
dropkicks - far away coast, road of the righteous, barroom hero
nofx- the brews
social distortion - sick boys, story of my life, ball and chain, bad luck (hell every song is good to drink to)
the specials - a message to you, rudi
the pietasters - rachel
tiger army - outlaw heart
the slackers - you must be good, rude and reckless, redlight, lazy woman, have the time

Alright, this might be a little bit late, but here's my $7.39-

AC/DC- Whiskey on the Rocks
The Cheiftans- Whiskey in the Jar (yes this was COVERED by Thin Lizzy and Metallica)
Anything by George Thurogood and the Destroyers
Hell Yea- Alcohaulin' Ass
Flogging Molly- Swagger, Devil's Dance floor, and Drunken Lullabyes
Dead Kennedys- Too Drunk to F***
Steve Earle?- Copperhead Road
The Doors- Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)
Blue Oyster Cult- Godzilla (Don't ask, it's just a good song)
And anything by ZZ Top

And as far as good singing songs go, anything with a lot of higher pitched male voices
(Roxanne anyone?) and 80's hair metal.

New Pornographers - My Slow Descent into Alcoholism
Morphine - Cure for Pain
Otis Redding - Sitting on a Dock on the Bay
Psychostick - Beer!
Reel Big Fish - Everybody's Drunk

Countless other songs, most of which have nothing to do with drinking. Every now and then when I have the apartment to myself, I like to crack a few homebrews and spend some quality time with my music collection.
