Reading a thread it seems like this is the 1 inch buildup of stuff on the top of my fermenting beer? what is this!!!??? its ugly. smells good.


So i shouldnt freak out?


or should I keg my beer then send it to you to dispose of? :)
 
It's perfectly normal, after a week or two it should disappear. Don't freak out. I don't even look into the fermenter anymore before 10-14 days, just let it do it's thing and everything will be all right.
 
It's a mixture of yeast, proteins and hops residue mostly. It indicates a good healthy fermentation.

The only times I haven't got a krausen is with the Mr. Beer kits that I did. Some recipes will have more krausen than others. Even if you didn't see it happen with prior brews, you can usually see the residue on the sides of the fermenter above the liquid level that proves it was there.
