Hey everyone,

I'm trying one of the HBT members recipes, ChshreCat's Brown Biscuit Ale,
only problem is I don't have access to amber lme.

Heres the recipe and my substitution

Ingredients Amount Item Type % or IBU
7.00 lb Amber Liquid Extract (12.5 SRM) Extract 73.68 %
1.00 lb Special B Malt (180.0 SRM) Grain 10.53 %
0.50 lb Biscuit Malt (23.0 SRM) Grain 5.26 %
0.50 lb Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 5.26 %
0.50 lb Pale Malt (6 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 5.26 %
1.00 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] (45 min) Hops 14.1 IBU
1.00 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] (15 min) Hops 7.6 IBU
1 Pkgs SafAle English Ale (DCL Yeast #S-04) Yeast-Ale

I was planning on sub-ing the Amber with:

6 lbs light LME
0.5lbs munich malt
0.5lbs of crystal 80L

Anyone have any other suggestions. I want to keep the recipe as close to the original as possible.

PS: Bought the last lbs of Special B from my LHBS and only have access to 80L crystal so I cant add more special B or a different crystal.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you!

From Papazian's HBC:

5# amber malt extract
= 5# light malt extract + 2 cups crystal
= 5# light malt extract + 1/2 cup black, chocolate or chocolate malt

FWIW, I used his calculations to make a robust porter- haven't tried it yet but next weekend should be bottling and can let you know.

PM me if you want me to let you know next week.
