For the yeast, I'm reusing yeast from a previous pale ale--safale 05. The hops are leftovers in my freezer. My sister is moving to Iowa for the summer next month and I brew to brew just a basic pleasanty-but not overwhelmingly-bitter APA. What do you think of my recipe? Any tips?

I'm calling it Iowa 'cause an I'm brewing it for an Ioweagian. Is there anyway to incorporate corn into it without doing a cereal mash?

So how would you recommend using flaked corn in this recipe? I don't really want to thin out the body on this one, so throw in .5 lb and call it good?

If you lust want it in there, sure 1/2 lb would be fine. Really your mash temp will define the body but the corn will not contribute the same flavor as the malt.

So you aren't trying to clone Millstream's Iowa Pale Ale?

I would add a little more end of boil hops, but I wouldn't say it's essential.

No...huh...I didn't know there was such a thing as a real IowaPA. I actually grew up in the Des Moines area and moved to MN about 6 years ago. Basically for this recipe, I took the grain bill for a Two Hearted Ale clone and added .5 lbs flaked wheat and I am using the hops in my freezer and part of a yeast cake thats in my fridge. I think I'll have to use .5 lb flaked corn too....

You moved away 6 years ago and it's like you forgot the most important part. If you want it Iowa I would wash some bacon fat and add it, and make sure you get a little pig crap and pesticides in there as well. If you use local water, use river water, it is guaranteed to contain solid amounts of swine feces and pesticides. LOL J/K about the bacon fat part.....man I love bacon- where was I? Oh yeah, you can add the corn, not sure why however? I make Iowa Pale Ales all the time and they never use corn. But you can call it anything you want. Good luck.

Here's what I ended up making:

It was in the fermenter for 2 weeks; dry hopped with 1 oz of Amerillo for 6 days. This beer is delicious. Best brew to date.
