I was given a hop plant as a gift and have a great spot to plant it on the side of my house. It is a second year plant from a local herb shop.

So here is my quick question I promised:

This thing has about 7-10 small little vines growing up, just under a foot I would say. I know I want to select one or two to work with. I was told that I would want to bury the rest of them. However all my research says to cut any unwanted ones.

Is there any difference or a preferable way to go about it?

Thanks homebrew people!

I have always just cut the unwanted ones off. The best thing to do is let all of them grow up a little bit, then pick the best two or three from the bunch. All of the other ones, just snip them off at ground level. Rap the good two or three around your twine, string, or rope (what ever you are using) in a clockwise direction. Then stand back and watch those bad boys take off.
