This is my oldest recipe. it's basically an amber ale a little over the style range for color, IBUs and gravity.

i've made it stronger some times (shooting for 6.66% ABV) but i don't think my efficiency will be as good today. i added some chocolate malt last time i made it and it was nearly black in color with a perfect crisp/dry stout flavor. very tasty. i've also made it with belgian yeast and slight variations in the grains for more of a dubbel with roasted grains...also nice. it's never done me wrong.

I've been tweaking it for years, but i think this is going to be the done deal. it's pretty much back to the basics, although the original recipes were mostly extract. Once this batch is kegged and consumed, I'll decide. If it turns out as good as the others, i'll add it to the recipe database

I am intrigued. I have been looking for a good red recipe grain bill for a while, show us a pic once you pour a glass. To bad I can't find any EKG though, I just may have to try it a little more American.

:off: And I wish more people shared your discretion on what goes into the recipe database, I found a noobs first recipe that he just brewed, still in the fermenter, that he thought may turn out decent.

i'd say that is a pretty different beer, although similar in high gravity and IBUs for the range. looks good, tho. i like the munich and pale chocolate. looks like yours will be pretty dark, similar to my Blood Stout (mentioned in op)

my original recipe was a mix of Ultra Light LME (2-row) and Light LME (marris otter) plus the specialty grains. they don't sell the Light LME in my area anymore. i think Munton's prices got too high.

ilikestuff, i haven't had trouble finding EKG (looks like Northern Brewer and MoreBeer have some) and i always stay fairly stocked up. it's one of my favorite hops. Perle is harder to come by for me...locally, at least. i only use it in a few recipes, but i don't know why...it's a wonderful hop.

i will get pictures of this after i brew it. maybe after i filter it, too ;) you should see my Kölsch...CRYSTAL clear.

LOL, I have some great recipies, some found, some developed.. None have made the database here :(

Apparently, my brews are inferior :cross:
I made a minor modification to Edwort's hause ale that turned out great! but no one wants to hear it /shrug

got 67% efficiency...had a little trouble with the mash temperature, added too much water and just couldn't fit enough wort in the brew kettle, leaving lots behind.

so it was 5 gallons @ 1.060, 56 IBUs

BUT...i did add even more water and made a small beer:

3.5 gallons @ 1.020 :D 30 IBUs

that's a pretty damn small beer, i'm glad i didn't top up. should be good, tho!

5 gal batch tastes like a blood ale! always has the same balanced character when i sample this brew...
