This would be my first DIY recipe. I was inspired by the Pliny grain bill and threw together a hop schedule for lots of flavor and aroma. I want to take advantage of the insane hop prices at Rebel Brewer right now and get this sucker ordered tomorrow.

How does it look? I'm not too sure about the mash hopping. I've never tried it and the HBT reviews of the technique are mixed.

Does this look alright or did I go overboard? Would a simple 1 oz at 60, 15, 5, and dry hop be better?

Overall I think it looks pretty tasty. I'd personally cut down on the Simcoe a bit, it a pretty pungent hop. I do a DIPA with Magnum,Amarillo, & Simcoe. I use a total of 2oz of Simcoe and it really stands out.

I would say Dry hop or an FO addition not both, I would personally DH. Move your 30 minute addition to 5 and cut down the 10 minute addition to 1oz. I think that will get you a more balanced beer overall, but will still have that Simcoe in your face.:mug:

Okay, I'll bite. This sounds awesome. I love Simcoe hops...VERY Piney! Brew it!!

Haha, well I know I like a lot of IPAs with Simcoe. I've also had a Mikkeller Simcoe Single Hop and it was very tasty. Although, since I'm fairly new to this and don't have a lot of experience crafting recipes or brewing with Simcoe I decided to tone it down. Just a little.

Thanks for all the advice.

Here's the revised recipe... I tweaked the AA levels to reflect what RB is shipping now.

I loves me some Simcoe, but dunno about a 100% brew... Every time I open a Pliny the mrs blames the cats for pissing somewhere in the living room. :p

The recipe is very similar to one I did. The simcoe hop gave a great flavor that in my opinion was not as pine tasting as others stated, overall it was a great pale ale and the keg was emptied relatively quickly. When I brew it again my adjustment will be to add the majority of the hop additions later to get more flavor and aroma with less bittering. Good Luck! :mug:

I am currently drinking this beer and it is a huge hit. The best IPA I've ever brewed if not the best beer period. I'm sure you'll enjoy your recipe. Control your fermentation temps as best as you can; that used to kepp my IPA's from reaching their full potential.

I do get the occasional "...that grapefruit beer" comment but only from non beerophiles and only once I plant the thought.

Yeah, I did an All Simcoe earlier this summer and it turned out pretty good. In the future, I'll just use the Simcoe for bittering though. I wanted to experiment with the taste and found that I like Cascade and Centennial a little better. It was an experiment that went well and was enjoyed by many. So give it a whirl and see what you think. Next time try something different. Best Wishes.

Actually I saw that thread at one point. I looked for it when I decided to formulate this recipe but couldn't remember the thread title. Seams like an awesome idea and with hop prices being so low it wouldn't break the bank.

After the Simcoe single hop I'll give it a try with Centennial. I might use Warrior for bittering but it would end up like a super Ed Wort's IPA which I know would be incredible.

Thanks for the link. :mug:

Finally brewed this last Saturday during an awesome double brew day. This is my 3rd All-Grain and the first to go off flawlessly. Can't wait to taste this beer! Final recipe is below. Thanks for the help.

I just kegged a fresh hop ipa using all simcoe. It smells and tastes wonderful. Very fruity. A couple of weeks conditioning, and it will be sublime.
