How to calculate batch and sparge water??

Will make the Captain hook from BM but will do half size(5.5G)

Trying to calculate batch and sparge water, tried on a couple of site but dosent seem to be right!
tried the calculator or lakeeriebrew which give me
Desired volume to primary : 5.25
mash water : 3.59
sparge water : 4.63
boil volume : 6.5
Which is almost the same as the haus pale ale i did on sat. But with the captain hook Ive 1 pounds of grain over .
Does it seem ok?
Didnt found it in beersmith, help would be apreciated

It works well for me. Keep good notes as well so you can tweek your temps and volumes in the future.

There is also an app for the ipod/iphone called sparge pal that uses the same calcs, I believe.

I tried,
3.82 for mash
5.62 for sparge ---} seem to be too much no?!

I assume you are forgetting that grain steals about 1/2 quart per pound as absorption. So, 12lbs of grain would keep about 1.5 gallons of the original mash water.
