I made a hefeweizen last night and it used the white labs german hefeweizen beer yeast. I went to the lhbs and the owner was talking about how a lot of people around this time of year put way to much cloves in there beer. I put one teaspoon is that too much??

Clove character in weizens comes from the yeast, not spices. So, I'd say any amount of clove in a weizen is too much.

ditto, it's a flavor compound that comes from the yeast. That being said, it's your beer and you can do whatever you like to make it what you want. If it tastes good to you then you put in the right amount :)
