Is it ok to use straight up vinyl tubing from a hardware store for siphoning?
I just bought some and it has a slight plasticy odor.
Is there some kind of "food grade" tubing I should be using or am I just paranoid?

-Thanks

I'm by no means an expert, but I've used the vinyl tubing from Lowe's and its fine. Ofcourse, make sure you sanitize it well, both INSIDE and OUTSIDE, as the outside will come in contact with beer as well. To make your life easier, you might just permanently store your siphon tubes inside of your sanitizing solution. I do this. I just make up a batch of sanitizer and just keep my tubes stored within it. When you finish using it, rinse well, inside and out with hot water, and put back into the solution.

It'll probably be ok, at least for a while.

Your LHBS should carry food-grade vinyl tubing. Barring that, look for anything that's suitable also for an automatic ice machine maybe...
