so a friend of mine has sunk huge amounts of cash into a very cool RIMS. last sunday, we hooked it up and went on a hops run. when we came back the silicone hose had kinked and the heater tube had boiled all the beer. long story short the silicone gaskets were melted and the tube holding the heater was discolored. The pump was still good! so we are rebuilding and looking for improvements.

The Question. how could one set up the system to work on WiFi and send a text alert if the temp in the rims tube gets too hot? and could one also have the timer, and thermometer send out similar pre-programed text messages? Thanks, Chia

Look for the thread with Raspberry Pi in it. This is a small processor the some folks are using for temperature monitoring. They are able to connect it to another board that will serve up the temperatures.

Besides that though, where was the temperature probe? What was the set point? Were you using a PID? Does it have an alarm feature?

Have you considered using a flow meter like this https://www.adafruit.com/blog/2012/05/09/new-product-liquid-flow-meter-plastic-12-npt-threaded/. They cost $10.

Just a few thoughts to help you along. Good luck.

the probe is in-line, but needs to be placed in the rims tube with an auto cut off IMHO. there are several failsafes that need to be included in this next version. thanks for the link!
