I don't know if anyone has ever made any real progress building these... I love the idea of basically using a giant mesh coffee filter...

I saw this company that sells custom stainless mesh baskets of any size and shape you need...

for my pot it came out to..

Seems pricey but its the closest I've seen to a working version... they are said to hold 60lbs hanging.

I got an email back from the stainless basket company...

"Jeff,
Our 304 stainless steel basket would work just fine for the brew application. Some question below.

· Quantity of baskets

· Are you going to be putting a lid on the pot with the basket inside?

· Weight of grains"

I'm curious to see where this goes!

Interesting. Keep us posted.

I've thought about constructing such a thing in a fine ss mesh to fit a keggle.

I use a perforated steamer basket and a voile bag. The basket gives me a solid shape that's easy to move and control. The voile provides the clean filter. Total was about $96.

I was tired of the bag being a shapeless hot mess, but I wasn't ready to put $200+ into a basket. I'm happy with my compromise.
