A few weeks ago I posted that I was having problems with my thermometer. I calibrated in crushed ice water @ 32° then placed it in boiling water which read 185°. I then decided to adjust it to 212° in boiling water. When I took a reading in iced water it read 45°. The temperature curve is too much for me to feel comfortable using it. I have no idea at what temperature I'm mashing. It's a needle style thermometer with a nut on the back. I've used electronic thermometers in the past, but always had problems with them. They would always fluctuate by 10° when reading my mash temperature.

I think it's time for me to buy a really nice thermometer. Does anyone have any suggestions on a highly accurate thermometer I can use in all stages of brewing?

Looks like I'm going to be getting a Thermapen. It'll be worth it in the long run, I've probably gone through that much already in garbage thermometers. My birthday is coming up in a few days, now I know what I'm getting.
