Hi all.

I read this thread with interest
https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/heat-stick-diy-38489/

A heat stick would be great for me to get the 40 liter pot ( stainless steel) i use for boiling up to boil faster. At present i use a 1.5 kv cooker plate and this can take an age to bring 25 liters up to boil.

Unfortunately i am not a handy person in the DIY stakes and wondered therefor if anyone would be willing to make one for me?

In addition i would like to know if i would need to keep this away from the sides of the steel in order so as to not get a shock. I will naturally pay for the hardware and a little for your time and assistance!

thanks

I built one using the instructions at http://www.cedarcreeknetworks.com/heatstick.htm. It works great, and I was about to say "sure I'll build one for ya!" Then I realized you're over there, and I'm in Tennessee :p You guys have all different outlets and voltages etc.
Don't feel nervous about attempting one yourself. It isn't hard and is very cheap. Just don't forget the GFCI and remember to let the sealant dry for a LONG time after potting the connections.
Oh and if built properly, the stick can touch the inside of a steel kettle, and you can touch the steel part (drainpipe) of the stick. Just keep it off of plastic if you're heating in a bucket.

Good luck!

Due to the liability (electricity + water = death), you will probably either have to build it yourself, or find a 240V commercial unit.

They really are not hard to build, you only have to drill two holes.
