Anyone ever try to strain yeast from the carboy through a fine s/s mesh instead of letting it settle out and tranfering from jar to jar?

I have a 4x10" 300 micron hop basket and was thinking of setting it inside a large pitcher, strain my yeast from my carboy, then transfer it into a pint jar.

Part of the "washing" is separating the healthy cells from the dead cells and trub. I'm not sure how straining it would help with that, but then I've never tried it.

if you transferred any hop particles into the fermenter it would certainly help strain them out. however, i am not certain that it would keep the break material and dead yeast from passing through.

I use a lot of dry hops in the fermenter do I'm thinking this would help strain out most of the hops then continue on with the washing
