So I have some leftover ingredients from a previous batch that I want to do something with. I have 2 lbs of Crystal 40, 1 lb of Munich, and 2oz of Chocolate malt for grains and a 1 gallon bag of unidentified whole leaf hops that I got from a friends back yard last fall in my freezer. I am thinking of trying a 2 to 2.5 gallon all grain batch just using what I have to see how it comes out. The hops are suspect and I am not fully set up for all grain and don't want to add any other malt. Do you think I can get a high enough yield of fermentables to do a random light ale with those grains and a decreased volume or do you think I am just wasting my time and grains? I already have low expectations for this experiment but am curious to see what happens and am curious on other's thought as well.

The munich will convert itself, but 2lbs of Crystal 40L is going to be nasty.

you need a base malt. put 5 to 8 lbs of 2-row in it and you have a recipe.

May still cut the 40L in half though and save for another day.
