I left my first brew in the bottles for about a month, then in the fridge for a week, tried the beer and it was beautiful, I have left my beer in the fridge now for about 3-4 weeks, I tried it again last night and it felt as if it has lost carbonation. Is this possible and should I now remove them and chill them only when I am going to drink them?

I think that most likely is that the priming sugar was not thoroughly mixed and you have varied carbonation across your bottles. I had this happen on a batch where some bottles were effervescent and other flat.
