Just so I make sure I got this right...

Strike water - 6.25 gallons at 165.9 that should come down to 154 when I add my grains to the mash tun

Sparge - 7 gal 18oz at 168

Do I need to Mash Out?
How does 6.25 + 7.14 + 3.5 = 16.89 become a13.69 gallon boil size? Is BS accounting for loss due to absorption?

Thanks. That write up is great.

As of right now brew day has been postponed due to weather. We'll see how the day clears up and maybe we'll see how it goes. I'll update later...

We're on for today...

Dad has already burned his hand on the keg...
I ran my drill in reverse so no grains crushed...
The keggle water was brown because of discoloration from the scrubby pad...

Take two starting now.. Strike water heating up as we speak...

11:20 update: Doughed in at 11:14, sitting at 152 degrees. 25qts water + 20lbs of grain

1:51pm update: 13.5 gallons pre boil volume. 697 max points = 1.0516. Actual SG 10.40 = 77.5% efficency.

I think I did that right....

Ok... all done and I'm home..

13.5 gallon pre boil volume
1.040 pre boil gravity
1.046 post boil gravity

Is the efficiency calculated with pre or post boil gravity?

13.5 gallons pre boil volume. 697 max points = 1.0516. Actual SG 10.40 = 77.5% efficiency.

or

13.5 gallons pre boil volume. 697 max points = 1.0516. Actual SG 10.46 =
89.1%?

or

Am I completely wrong? :)

I believe efficiency calcs. need pre-boil gravity. Especially since you can alter post boil gravity by how much you boil.
