Preliminary Success anyway...

Everything went smooth bottling. Had only about half a bottle left on the last bottle so I gave it a try...

Aside from being a little "alcoholy" it smelled good and tasted good. A couple weeks in the bottle should do it very well..

Thanks for everyones insight!

Oh yeah.... that is some crazy long 14 days... but do wait... it really does improve on the 2 week threshold. Congrats. I just bottled my third 5 gal batch today, and it's getting easier and smoother each go.

on average how many 12 ounce bottles are you guys getting out of a 5 gallon batch? I know this will vary depending on draw offs and blow offs etc. but just a ball park figure so I know about how many bottles to get, I was thinking 48 plus what I have laying around from what I drank.

Rod, a very full 6 gal carboy will yield about 45 1/2 L bottles, roughly pints... which I think is 16 oz right? (I work in Liters). If this is the case, you need something like 60 12 oz bottles. But I think most batches are a little less. That's a max for a 6 gal (23 L) carboy. If you have 5 gal, which is about 19 liters, then you'll need something more like what you have (48).

It's nice to have some bigger and smaller bottles in each bottling. Then when company comes, you can just drag a big pop-bottle full of brew out.
