Just saw this on ebay and thought it was pretty interesting.

It appears they welded a dump valve on the bottom, put the keg on casters, and welded 2 corny posts, and a corny lid to it.

What is your guys opinion on these? Since the angle isnt very steep on the bottom dome, it doesnt work too well as a dump for trub right? It has to be something like 60 degrees.

What do you think it would cost to make one of these.. assuming you have to farm out the welding, and do you think its work it

(Description from Ebay..link not working)

13.2 Gallon Universal Stainless Steel Keg Fermenter

The 13.2 Gallon Uni-Fermenter is made out of a gently used and reconditioned Stainless steel keg. All fittings and legs have been professionally TIG welded using the finest Stainless steel rod. The Uni-Fermenter features a soda keg style hatch to access the interior of the fermenter for filling, cleaning, pitching yeast, adding hops and racking out beer. The Uni-Fermenter also features a 3/4" NPT valve located on the bottom of the unit for taking yeast samples and cleaning. The original Sankey valve has been removed, and welded shut. We have also installed soda keg style liquid out and co2 in fittings, which are servicable and removable.
The soda keg liquid out fitting has a dip tube that is 1" off of the bottom of the Fermenter, and can be used to rack out the beer under co2 pressure for kegging, as well as for serving. During fermentation, co2 blow off is accomplished by using a standard female co2 quick disconnect fitting, attached to the male co2 in fitting installed on the top of the fermenter. A hose is then attached to the female fitting, and ran down into a bucket of water to serve as an airlock, and to catch any beer blowoff. Once fermentation has stopped the female blowoff fitting and tube is removed, and both fittings should be cleaned prior to pressurizing with co2 for serving,or racking. The Uni-Fermenter has 3 welded Stainless Steel legs, with swiveling, lockable casters, that can quickly be removed by unthreading the wheel from its leg that contains a welded in, threaded insert. This allows you to shorten the overall height of the unit by 4.5" making it possible to fit into most common refrigerators. The Uni-Fermenter comes with all parts pictured. We also stock soda keg co2, and liquid in quick disconnects, hose barbs, and blow off tubes that can be purchased separately. Please feel free to Email us with any questions you may have, and we will gladly answer ASAP. You can also find us online! We know you will be pleased with our outstanding work & customer service.

15 minutes later, and it's gone. ?

Edit - just saw that you mentioned the link doesn't work. That look really cool, actually. I want one.

We in our HBC have been thinking about doing this. We can get kegs from Kona Brewing here.. We got a stainless welder in the club thats gun ho to do it.. Seems pretty simlpe to make if you can get the kegs easily..

it does seem like overkill on a keg to turn it into a fermenter...

This whole hobby is a bit of overkill.

My latest project:
sanke turned upside down. Hole cut on the new top and welded on a 4" sanitary ferrule. On the old top/new bottom, a 2" sanitary ferrule welded into the existing hole, sans valve. Attached to this is via tri clamp is a 2" stainless ball valve.

That is all done. The remaining piece is drilling out a 4" end cap and fitting a corny in and corny out post on it. Then likely some legs. I'll post pics when I'm done.
