Philadelphia, PA and Melville, NY

I am visiting clients in the east and will be in Philly, PA on March 9, and Melville, NY on March 10/11.

Any suggestions on beer/food? I am staying at the Windsor Suites in Philly, and the Huntington Hilton on Long Island.

Your hotel is over by Logan Square so this should help you out if you want to keep with in walking distance. Definitely hit Monks for some moules-frites if you've never been. Lot's of great places to hit otherwise.

Although I'm sure the beer will be plenty good on the 9th. I second Monks... if you're into colonial food (and Yard's interpretation of colonial beer), you might want to check out the city tavern (www.citytavern.com)

Or Brauhaus Schmitz for some German fare...

Yeah, already hit beermapping and saw Monks. On the list for sure!

No good bars/pubs in Melville (work in town). One pub i've been meaning to get to with great selection of bottle/tap is Canterbury Ales which is about a 15 minute drive from the hotel in Huntington Village. A little closer in Farmingdale is Croxley Ales. Plenty of taps on hand with some standouts. Food is so-so. Not alot of selection when it comes to great food and beer combination in this area. You'd have a drive ahead of you for that. Have a safe trip.

Lived in philly for a few years......INCREDIBLE beer city. Check out Standard tap-great local bar, old city tavern-have thomas jeffern, ben franklin and george washington original recipes on tap, Beneluxx- belgian beer and chocolate tastings, Eulogy Belgian Tavern- Belgian Sour on tap and best mussels in the city. I am looking forward to the trip, and hope my client meetings go as well as the trip seems to be stacking up.

Well, it was fast, but I did find a few places I enjoyed.

First, Monk's Cafe in Philly: Mussels paired with (on tap) Chouffe Hublon, then St. Bernardus abt 12, then a bottle of Hercule Stout. Neat place!

Jump to the next day: food around Melville left much to be desired, but the Blue Point beers on tap at the hotel bar were worth it. The Oatmeal Stout was a solid beer. Easy drinker, very smooth. Then I tried the Toasted Lager. I am not a huge lager fan, but this beer is amazing, IMO! Awesome toasted bread, fresh baked aroma and flavor with a great hop balance. I wish I could have brought some home.
