Played around with labels for a while and definitely concluded computer art was not my strongest skill. Instead I decided I will be carving labels into rubber blocks and stamping the bottles with a white enamel or similar. since I'm kinda into petroglyphs, I decided i would do one brewery logo for all the bottles then I'll try different glyphs to represent various brew types and then I can print a sort of pamphlet key. For the wines, I will put the vintage into the glyph as well.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be great... I'm still just workin this out.

A few things to consider before embarking on this project.

Stamps are flat, bottles are curved. It will be very diffiucult to get a clean stamp because of this. The paint will also likely run. Most painted labels on bottles are screen printed.

You are not going to have anywhere near the same level of contrast as your examples show. I would suggest reworking your images on a background layer that is close to your full bottles. You will then be able to play around with foreground colors finding some that work.

This seems like a tremendous amount of effort. While it may be worth it for a 'commemorative' brew, it will become overwhelming for everyday labels.

I think you should print off the rattlesnake label and instead of a typical rectangular label, you should take the rattlesnake and wrap it around the bottle a few times with the head of it pointing toward the neck of the bottle. maybe then you could just use the stamp for the different kinds of brews, but your workload would be way reduced by doing the snake out of a label

i hope you follow what i mean, because IMHO it would look awesome!

love the originality dude!

thanks guys, I had been thinking about some of these problems and have done a few trial bottles. It does become tedious, however, I dont usually label all of my bottles, just a few from each batch to save or give out. The contrast isn't much of an issue as i use primarilly dark bottles/white paint. I use pretty thick paint as well though I can definitely see advantages to screen printing with the bottle shapes. I just roll the bottle over the stamp with the bottome of the bottle against a flat surface to get a straight line. Really tedious...

An idea I toyed with before this was to do a similar thing using those clear vinyl bumper sticker-type things, though that can be pretty pricy to have those screened, but for just the snake it might be a bit more cost effective.

Fortunately I have zillions of spare bottles to test this out on and nothing but time, as I still have 2 weeks left of break from school.
