Last night I brewed an imperial amber. Beersmith said that I should have a pre-boil gravity of 1.054 and I did. After cooling the wort and transferring to the fermenter I checked the OG and it was 1.072, Beersmith said it should be 1.074. Does anyone have any feedback to where I was loosing those few points?

Thanks!

Sounds like you just missed your final volume by a lil. I would count that as a spot on brew day in my book, i never sweat 2 pts.

yeah 2 points isn't a biggie but the error is probably in your boil off. beersmith figures your boil off by your evaporation rate. If your evaporation rate is lower than beersmith thinks then your you'll find a variance in your estimated pre-boil and post-boil gravity.
