I was just up at ace hardware with my wife picking up some canning supplies and right next to all of the supplies were about 5 or 6 5 gal glass carboys for $14.95. I think I saw them at my LHBS for around $20 so its a nice little savings. I'll probably pickup another one or two just to have around.

Thought everyone would like to know.
 
A five gallon carboy will be perfect for use as a secondary, but you will find them to be too small for use as a primary fermenter.

Depends what your brewing. Low gravity beers like English bitters and Scottish Ales 60/- are fine in my 5 gal carboy, I might blow off a cup at most when fermentation temperature is well controlled and low 60's. A 1.050 Hefe on the other hand...;)
