The recipe I did last night said it would make 5 gallons at 75% efficiency. How can I tell what my efficiency was? I think it has to do with my OG, right? Mine was 1.057 at 70 degrees, which would make it 1.058 after adjustment for temp. How do I know what my efficiency was?

It is a measure of the percentage of the total possible sugar you get out of your grain. E.g., if the total potential for your grain bill is an OG of 1.050 and you end up with 1.040, your efficiency was 80%. I think I did that math right.

In order to calculate efficiency you need a list of grains (and their weight), the original gravity measured and the exactly volume measurement of wort you had when that OG measurement was made.
