Well the heading pretty much somes it all. I know that faucets and shanks are either brass or stainless with the brass ones being chrome plated. Do the brass ones have to be chrome plated or can the shanks and faucets be made of bare brass? The reason I am asking is because I was going to make the shanks myself out of brass roundstock and was wondering if the bare brass would tarnish on the inside and ruin the beer.

I think they have to be chrome plated or stainless. I've never seen anything but plated or stainless ones for sale. I've read several threads where people have said that beer, being acidic, will corrode the brass and leach metals.

I can't vouch for that, it's just what I've read.
