Fining agents...a general question

You need to get the brew off of the trub before you use finings. Most of them work by binding particles & proteins and the trub has a lot of particles in it. To get really good results, rack a second time, then add the finings. I've used them a few times, they worked.

Don't mean to hijack but...

If th wort has been in the secondary for a week, would it be alright to add the finings this late in the game?

Is it sterile? Ok to just toss in?

I am eager to try the finings yet I just racked to the 2nd a few days ago.:D
