I have a question about hop additions as I'm trying to figure out the best schedule for a recipe I'm doing.

Say, for example, I need to hit 55 IBU's over a 60 min boil. Does it matter how I do the additions as long as the final IBU total is 55? Using beersmith I can vary the additions at different intervals and still wind up with 55. I just don't know which variation is the best to user, or even if it really matters at all. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Depends on the amount of flavor and aroma you want. You can get to 55 ibu by adding very little hops at 60 minutes, but there won't be any flavor or aroma, just bittering.

Doesn't matter for IBU. More hops later == more flavor and aroma. For something like a Bitter, you would want most of your hops at 60.
