I just got some ball valves from buyfittingsonline.com and they are really really tight to turn. So tight I am afraid that if I try and use them on my kettle it will cause problems with my weldless fitting.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be done to loosen them?

Once they heat up they will probably be a lot more loose. Try heating up your kettle with water and see how it works with a test drive boil.

I had the same problem. Took them apart and put a very small amount of keg lube and worked them back and forth. They loosened up a bit and after using them with heat they were fine. In my case the most expensive ones I bought were the hardest to turn.
