Cutting cornies down to size?

So since 3 gallon kegs are so expensive, has anyone tried cutting cornies down to make them smaller? My friend is a professional metal artist with his own shop, so I'm considering this as an alternative to buying the smaller ones.
 
I think it would be really hard to do. The stainless is pretty thin and then you have to clean up the weld perfectly on the inside through a small opening.

That being said if you can figure it out how to do it well, you might have a awesome little business.
 
I found a few older threads on here. It seems like its been tried before, but for most people would be too much work to be worth it. I'm hoping that with my friend's business, it will be an easy thing for him to do. I'll update once I speak to him.
