Hello all. I am about to do my first boiled batch! I have a pot that holds 12 Litres which brings the liquid right up to the top, 11 L would still be suspect once the boiling starts.

All my recipes call for 3 US gallons to start (11L) If I use less, say 10 L - 2.6 gals - which would lower the amount of water I dilute the DME for example would that make a big difference? I could go out and get a bigger pot of course but if it makes no difference I won't bother.

Cheers,
Steve

10L in a 12L pot compared to 11/12 is irrelevant, IMHO. Either way, I suspect you'll have boilovers and end up with less anyway. I would get a bigger pot and go from there.

You can put 2/3 of the wort in and boil, adding a little bit as it reduces. I have done that when I collected 5.5 gallons or so with my 5 gallon pot.

It takes time, but works.
