... no this is not the term for a red and swollen fermenting bucket with a non-bubbling airlock.

It is the term for a newb who is 1.5 batches into brewing and can't stop reading this forum and thinking about home brewing. Whether it is what the next batch should be, possible DIY projects (loving the fermentation chambers using old mini fridges BTW) or tips for brewing a better batch... I am beyond hooked.

God help the SWMBO (I even am getting the acronyms down)... Ruh roh!

I hear you, except I have pre-homebrewitis. I helped a buddy brew a batch two weeks ago, then went back this weekend to rack over to secondary fermentation and taste test it.
I have to wait about 3 weeks before I can get my kit from my lhbs. I am doing their deluxe kit and upgrading to glass carboys. Another buddy is going in on it with me so we can split the start up costs. I can't stay off the board, mostly lurking since I'm not actually doing it yet.

Welcome to the passion that is Home Brewing!

1 year and 26 batches in (1 extract 25 all grain) I can tell you, it only gets better the more you learn. This is the place to learn, read the Sticky Notes and posts as a place to start, and the search tool.

Happy Brewing!

A hobby turn obsession for me. I have planned my next three recipes and my summer brew list lol. I always find ways to bring up brewing at work, i think my co worker think I am a alcoholic .:drunk:

Ironic how just one infection is the cure.

Witty, I like it.

Wow, you moved to all grain after one batch? That's impressive. I need to keep reading and stop looking at things to buy, the list is endless.

I got the bug bad, and I haven't even started my first batch yet. Whenever I have downtime at work (like right now) I'm on HBT or doing other research :)

Damn, I've got it too. :mug:

My charming and beautiful SWMBO bought me a kit for Christmas. First batch was cooked on Christmas eve, was in the carboy fermenter for 3 weeks (so I could see what was going on), and has been in bottles for a week now. Second batch is in the bucket fermenter for 2 weeks (which originally was the bottling bucket until I converted it into a fermenter). Now I just stare longingly at the empty carboy and plot my next batch, but my evil and controlling SWMBO (yes, the same one from above) doesn't want me to make any more until I actually drink some of it, so we're not crushed under beer bottles. The nerve!

Mike

Welcome to the addiction.

This place is great and there is a wealth of info on here. When I first started I spent so much time reading about brewing that my wife called it my beer porn.

Now 50 batches in and I am still on here a lot and thinking about my next brew all the time.

I also do a lot of research (drinking different beers) so I get ideas for new brews.

Interesting... I was born and raised in the 'wood! That was when Haddon Ave. was all thrift stores and vacuum repair shop though and not amazing BYOB's.

I am another one of those lucky people who received a beer kit for Christmas from SWMBO. She had absolutely no idea what she was getting herself into! All my free time is consumed by thinking and researching homebrewing. I just bottled my second batch up today and am trying to find more time and equipment to donate to my hobby, er I mean my obsession. Cheers! :mug:

Scrounging is a great pass time for this hobby. I stand in my garage and stare at my new DIY invention. Don't know what it is yet , but it must be good for beer.:tank: :ban: oh ya its a new eelectric keggle, cost around $37 and $9 of that was for polish.;) Rummage sales, people have stuff they don't want; cheap.:mug: Cheers

Man I got it too. Got a brew kit for Christmas ans already added another primary. And there's so much to learn.

Haha...from reading this, now i know that i'm not the only one. My SWMBO got me the kit for christmas as well. And i can't stop reading this forum. I already knew before she got it for me that i wanted to do this though. So I was reading this forum for a few months before. All I can say is thanks to everyone here. They are all so helpful and unlike other forums actually seem to want to help.

Good luck on your home brewing adventures! :mug:

There with ya buddy. Just finished my third extract and was so excited I moved to allgrain by building my own 13 gallon mash tun and buying a 10 gallon kettle. Always more to learn and even more to build!

Btw, there's no antidote for the HBT virus :/

I've got it bad and I'm trying to bring everyone into with me! I got a kit for Christmas and brewed one batch with extract. I just brewed two all grain batches on Saturday and have already ordered another primary and enough ingredients for 3 more beers. It's a great hobby and I am glad that I got into it. I stalk the forum and have already learned so much. The fellow members are the best resource around. Thanks guys.

BTW, here are some pics of my second batch in action... This one is a Belgian Wit to keep my SWMBO happy with my new hobby too since she is a Blue Moon/Hoegaarden kinda gal. Some nice krausen blowoff action going on the last 2 days. I think the Wyeast 3944 is pretty active (did a starter with this one too).

There is also a good shot of my assistant brewmaster freaking out at the bubbling tube!

Wow I love the fermenter guard dog.....my dogs just want to get into the bucket.

hmmm....maybe I should stop talking about it to my coworkers. They might think the same thing. I am officially obsessed with the hobby. Just trying to figure out what to do now with my Oktoberfest bottled and an empty fermenter.

Same here at work. Keep hitting people up to bring in their empties so I have bottles for my next batch.

FYI... To all the new members with pets! You will find they are very attracted to the smells and sounds of blow off tubes. That said; they (DOGS) are very attracted to your spent grains & hops. BOILED HOPS WILL KILL DOGS. please keep you little buddy away from homebrew. There is a STICKY thread just for this subject, Beware; For their sake. Thanks all.

Thanks Bob... I definitely read up on this and the pupster is not ever unsupervised near the fermenter (usually the bucket is sealed off anyway) and not allowed in the kitchen during a brew session... Completely and totally am thankful for the heads up though!

I'm lucky enough to have a relative of my wife who's been in the hobby up to his eyeballs for years. Aside from being a super nice dude, he's always offering to let me help out with his latest batch. So I almost always have an opportunity to be doing something even if I'm waiting on something of mine. That really keeps the anxiety down!

You know... That kind of makes me realize what kind of people are in the hobby. For example, I also play guitar, but do you think I've ever jammed with anyone? Nope. I know at least ten guys near me who play, including my own cousin, yet none of them want to get together because we don't share the same taste in music.

That's the great thing about brewing. We all have many tastes when it comes to beer but the brewing, building, ploting, reading part of it makes it enjoyable for everyone!

P.S. what kinda axe do ya got? I got a 2004 Tele and also a 1985 Dean laymate Z

Cheers! :mug:

You are exactly correct. I have an Agile Les Paul Goldtop copy. Nothing special. My pride and joy is a '67 Fender Bassman.

There are definitely plenty of hombrew addicts on this forum and I'm one of them. Keep in mind that there is no cure for this bug. But you can treat the symptoms with 2-3 pints a day and a hefty dose of DIY :mug:

That is too funny! I have been doing the same thing! SWMBO just told me the other night she thinks I have enough bottles and doesn't want them all over. My thought is, get ahold of some kegs and the problem is solved!!

Oh, and for the first time I have had my kit it doesn't have anything going right now and I feel just as empty as it because of it... I got the bug bad :ban:

Friend at work brewed a batch this weekend with some of his buddies and brought me the bottles they emptied, almost a full case.

Gonna need more in a few weeks, my fermenters are empty but, I just ordered 2 more kits from Austin's
