This might just be the fact that I'm an über n00b but what's the point of beer head??? I've read a lot about head retention and the like but have yet to find anything that breaks down any beneficial purpose it serves for the beer itself. I enjoy a good rich head because it SEEMS to help develop some of the more subtle flavors but I am easily decieved by the placebo effect.

Also a sign of a well-crafted brew. Beer with a thin head will often taste/feel thin.

Good call. A thick head looks killer and gets the mouth watering, but more importantly, it's a sign of a quality brew. Plus, there's nothing better than a beer head mustache.
