I was wondering if Mead was available at local liquer stores or do I need to find a specialty store? I tlook interesting to make but before I venture into that kingdom I want to try it to see if I will even like it! I would assume you can't purchase it online since I have not been able to find an online store. Please Help!!

Chaucers is sold in CostPlus world market, which is a national chain.

Store Hours: 9am-9pm Monday through Saturday, 10am-7pm Sunday

I've seen Redstone elsewhere.

You may have more luck in a specialty wine store than a liquor store a good beer selection. Check the wine areas where Muscat and other Dessert wines are sold.

Often the workers don't know they have it.

Even the best commercial mead is sub par to a homemade one.

Just find a large liquor or wine shop. They should have something. You should be able to find some online sales. Here some links. I do get from Pirtle and they have some nice Melomels.

Travis is Bunratty a local meadery? Haven't ever ran across it but will look on the net. I am in the Chicago area a few times a year and woulld like to pick some up!

If you have a Central Market (I think it is part of H.E.B.) they carry Redstone. At least the one in Houston had it. That last liquor store I tried to find it in you would have thought they were Miss Teen South Carolina on Jeapordy the way they looked at me when I asked them if they carried any mead.

mgayer,

Bunratty Meade is actually imported from Ireland--produced and bottled by bunratty mead and liquor co. in Co. Clare--I know Bennigan's restaurants keep it stocked in their bars and I've been able to find it most places around chicagoland.

Here's their website:

Homebrewer99--I'm jealous, I can't wait to go to Ireland--hopefully soon!

Chaucer's is the only one I've been able to find around here. I didn't really like it.

I've been trying to track down some Jadwiga, or at least some other Polish mead, around here. Unfortunately, Alabama is a no ship state except for a few exceptional cases where they use ABC as an inter-mead-iary. ;)

I've been to Bunratty Castle in Ireland...:D

Me too. Did you do the dinner where the wenches bring you mead? The hotel is one of the nicest places to stay in that area and Durty Nellies pours a fine pint.

Thanks, will be in Tinley Park The first of November and will try to find some!

This is a fairly frequently asked question, so browsing through the archives may be enlightening.

I find that most large wine stores (including stores with an online presence) will have at least one or two meads.

The best selection I've seen in an online store is at Liquid Solutions (http://liquidsolutions.biz/main/), but I've been less than impressed with their customer service.

Tasting notes for the commercial meads I've had are available at http://flowerysong.livejournal.com/tag/mead

Do note that Bunratty Meade is technically a 'hippocras', or grape wine sweetened with honey, rather than a wine fermented from honey.

Please keep in mind, the mead you get in a liquor store for ~$10 a bottle is going to be quite a bit different than what you make yourself.

Just wondering, can you find mead up in Dallas area. Down here I have tried just about every liquor store with no luck.

I usually stay in South Dallas every year for the Ren Fest and I found some at an HEB. Maybe it was there just because of the Ren Fest!!
