I thought I saw a thread on here with a how-to and pictures of someone who built a tower out of PVC, then spray painted it black.

Am I crazy, or does someone know what I"m talking about? :drunk:

I want to convert a dorm fridge on an extreme budget. I know I'd have to buy a tower shank and a faucet, and I assume some spray-in insulation for the ghetto tower. But a few pictures of someone else who did it would be very nice!

U mean something like this?

Not a lot to it. Figure out where you want the holes, and drill. Add a cap and a mounting flange. I wrapped the inside with a thin piece of flexible foam to keep in the cool. If it is hot out, I take the cap off and put in a baggie of ice.

(The new BYO has a remarkably similar design in it)

Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of! I'd paint it black, like this picture from Bradsul's gallery:

Getting that plastic paint to stick can be a problem. Might want to rough up the plastic surfaces with some fine steel wool or something similar.

krylon makes a spray paint for plastic and it works pretty well. Roughing up the surface isn't a bad idea though.

+1 you want to get plastic primer and rough up the plastic with some green scrubby stuff. It doesn't take much, just make sure to get it all rough.

yep...special paints for plastics. Krylon fusion will do the trick, or you could use a bonding primer (UMA from XIM, Stix from INSL-X, and i'm sure there are others) and whatever paint you want to topcoat with, if Fusion doesn't have a color/sheen combination you like.

I remember seeing that design somewhere and I can't seem to find it now that I'm actually starting to build one lol. Is that yours or a DIY that you've seen? Anyway you could point me in the direction to find more info? Thanks in advance
