I am a begginer in all this, and some things about yeast confuse me very much.
For example, I have seen many different kinds of yeast available on the internet marked with different codes and names. What is all this about? Are they actually different kinds of organisms, or just marketing?
What are actually the main factors that differ the yeasts one from another?
At my local macrobiotics store, there is a big pack of "beer brewing yeast" that is being sold as a food suplement for sportsmen and some other people, and as a great source of vitamin B. On the box there is a content, and it says: 100% beer brewing yeast.
Can I use this yeast for my first batch of beer? If not, can you explain why?
Thanks!
