I'm wanting to start brewing in the basement and was wondering if anyone has used induction burners.

I could never find an affordable one of sufficient wattage.

What kind of wattage would you need to boil 6-7 gallons ?

Upwards of 3000 watts. You might get away with lower since the coupling would be close to 100% but I never found anything close that wasn't expensive. You will have to go 240 V. Most of the ones you find are 120 volt and about 1200 Watts if I remember correctly. I haven't searched in over a year.

I've got a Burton (110V, 1800W) that I picked up on Amazon for around $80. It's a little on the anemic side, but works just fine for partial-boil extract brewing. At some point I'll probably want to upgrade, but that will require another box and panel, since the current one is full.
