I used to help out my good buddy from college on his brew days, but I've since moved away and now I'm going to start brewing on my own.
My local brew shop (love2brew - Central NJ) has a selection of extract kits, but no American pale ales. This is my wife's favorite style of beer and because she will be helping me out on brew day I'd like our first beer to be a cascade hopped west coast pale ale.
So here's the issue - I have never designed my own recipe. I was thinking for a 5 gallon extract batch I'd go with this:
Stepping grains:
1 lb caramel malt
Extract:
6.6lb Golden Light LME (Briess)
Hops:
2oz Cascade (60 min)
1oz Cascade (1 min)
Yeast:
Safeale 05
Thoughts? Ideas? Your pale ale recepies?
