The specifications for it on Amazon say that it is only 6 inches long. But on Ron's Home and Hardware site they say that it requires a minimum 14" diameter tank. If anyone has this element can you tell me exactly how much space it uses inside the kettle? My 9 gallon kettle is only 13.25" in diameter so if it is only 6 inches long I think I will be good. But if it actually requires 14 inches, then i have a problem. Thanks

You can bend the elements carefully to make it fit.

Or go with a 4000W element.

Sorry about pic quality element.JPG

IMHO a 5500W element in a 9 gallon kettle is way over kill. A 4500W element is more than enough and indeed will have to be throttled back during the boil.
