I was listening to my local NPR station and they ran a story on American craft beer. Turns out its big in Sweden. It also turns out that beer brewing is the second biggest online hoby, second only to pornography. I would just like to say congratulations to everyone for spending their time on the internet....productively (well....I guess that's up to the individual to decide).

Somehow I doubt the validity of that article. I don't think we compare to things like

online gaming -- hobby
genealogy research -- hobby
managing your facebook BS -- for some a hobby others a full time job.

I have to say, rule 34 is severely lacking in the craft beer porn dept.

I think you just stumbled upon a business venture here. Get a few craft breweries on hoard and you have a successful "advertising" campaign

Beer is insanely expensive in Sweden, that's why.

Yeah, iirc even local stuff is well above $10 for less than a pint. You can't compare costs though; the whole economy and tax system (and therefore 'spending money') is quite different from ours.

A new Camaro is $140,000 in Sweden. Their income is higher than Americans', but very few can afford a Camaro.

The do get "free" college and healthcare though.

Exactly. Its like the 100 meter sprint. Unless too many IIPAs are involved, then it can feel more like a triathlon.

Awesome!!

Exhausting, excruciatingly painful and ending in a massage? (as a triathlete, this is the correct order your triathlon should follow)

Only if you could get beer for free.;) I did get a free beer t-shirt once or twice though.

They also get to spend a MANDATORY 2 years in the military. No one really owns any land, there is "all mans land" rights which is basically you can do or go where every you want as long as you are away from any building by X number of meters. They get most of the winter off... and eat mainly fish... I'll pass but thanks for playing...

Porn, just what is porn. Is it that mysterious addiction that brings you back, over and over. You can't control yourself, you , must, go, to, HBT? Ok, yeah, I am addicted to porn, the beer kind, not the other kind.

Compulsory military service in Sweden was abolished two years ago, lasted about 11 months, not two years. Also, people do own land. It's not "all mans land", but "everyman's right", which is a constitutional right that "gives a person the right to access, walk, cycle, ride, ski, and camp on any land—with the exception of private gardens, the immediate vicinity of a dwelling house and land under cultivation." And they don't get most of the winter off. At least not those Swedes living below the Arctic circle. And eat more pork, beef and chicken than fish. (source: my Swedish girlfriend :))

Back to the topic of beer: the Swedes do love American craft beer, you can buy it in the state owned chain of liquor stores (Systembolaget) or in a nation wide chain of pubs called The Bishop's Arms. It's expensive though, a Stone Ruination or something similar is $16 a bottle... Something local or European is around $10.

My wife is Swedish so I go there once a year... its not really that expensive.. basically big city prices. But if you buy from the local package stores it's relatively cheap. Now go across the bridge to Copenhagen and you can easily pay 15+ usd for a pint. robbery lol

I'm sure there is marginal overlap between the top two.
