So my new stirplate is all fabbed up. Still playing with magnet placement, but it's working well... except for that my power supply is getting pretty warm when plugged in. Making me worried that maybe I wired something wrong.

See [really bad] pic for how I wired and let me know if you think I did something wrong.

Thanks!

Stats:

Power Supply = 9vdc 100mA
Switch = 12vdc 50A
Rheostat = 25-Ohm 3-Watt
Fan = 12vdc .38amp

So I maybe I just answered my own question. Is the fan drawing more than the supply can push and therefore it's heating the supply up?

None of the other components are getting hot. Just the power supply itself.

Thanks!

nm. just had the damned thing wired wrong. found wiring here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/stir-plate-wiring-help-53994/#post544824

pos from power to one post on switch. then patch from other post of switch to middle terminal on rheostat. then from one of the side terminals of rheostat to pos on fan. neg from fan connects direct to neg of power supply

everything running good now!!
