How many watts do I need to get when I purchase an aquarium heater to keep my fermentation at 50F even though the weather outside may get near zero (or below) in the coming months?
Lagering 12 gallons of wort at 50F. I want to use a big rubbermaid filled with water, my two carboys, a ranco (http://www.pexsupply.com/Ranco-ETC-...re-Control-w-Sensor-120-240V-Input-11627000-p), and an aquarium heater. The coldest place I can go is outside my basement door, which is still underneath a Wizard of Oz-style door above the stairs. A 5-gallon bucket of water placed in this location at a test froze up.
