Does anyone know how similar 1056 is to WL001? Is it essentially the same strain of yeast? Are they interchangeable?

Basically the same strain, very interchangeable.

For dry yeast US-05 is also said to be the same strain, though some people can tell the differences, perhaps due to very small impurities.

On the white Labs site, they say optimum temps should be 68-73. For the Wyeast strain they say ferm at 60-72. What gives with the 8 degree difference in the low end?

I guess it doesn't matter, I was just curious. I have a 1056 starter going right now. I think I'll ferment it in the LOW 60's.

I have been very happy with US-05 fermented in the LOW 60s

like 60 or 62

My basement is 61 right now. :mug: Need to get another 10 or 20 gallons going
