whats a hose clamp? 
let me elaborate i have 5/16" gas lines ... my reg is barbed 5/16", do i need a new fitting for my reg to 1/4 and new hoses , how are you doing this? or is there a 5/16" to 1/4" adapter?

My line was hard to get on at first, but I eventually got it on. It's a snug fit, but hose clamps help ensure it stays put.

Yeah, first time can be difficult.
I find soaking it in hot water to soften it lets it slip on easier.
