I'm almost to boil for my second all grain batch. Hit gravity on the money and didn't miss my volume by much so I am very happy. Just wish I had made the move sooner!

How's it going? I'd say my brew day went well, didn't spill anything. But I swear I had to muster every bit of strength in me to lift this stuff. Still sore from Tuesday brewing, this might hurt tomorrow. Dragging, pulling, trying to lift... whew, I'm wiped out. Too tired to worry about much, even though all hell breaking loose around me. Just family members sick. But I will stay healthy if I can and happy brew day dance. :ban::ban:

It's that time of night for me.
I got up at my usual 3:30 AM so it IS late in my world.
Working on, tweaking, building, and customizing amps is a lot like
making our own beer.
More of a passion than a money making deal...done for the satisfaction
of doing it yourself and adding one's own touch.
No computer amplified device can capture the dynamics of vacuum tubes.
Reminds me of the smooth sound of those old tractors BobbiLynn keeps talking about.
My only contact with them any more is on RFD channel and their great vintage tractor shows.

So another shot of my "amp porn", and a clip of old Joe.

Went well ... Hit my gravity on the nose. Only issue was my volume was about a half gallon short. I'll take that to get the beer I want though. After cleaning up I'm exhausted!

A light-hearted song that your talking about your dog got me thinking of.

Music and beer go so good together. Sounds awesome!!

Great forum.
On week four of my "big boy" setup away from the Mr. Beer starters years ago.
I have learned this: Time.
So batch #1 is in bottles from last week, and will be for at least two more weeks.
So I made (3) 5 gallon brews in three weeks.
Amber, then Wheat, and now Pale.
Batch #2 is now 2 weeks in primary and FG is stable (tastes great too).
Will bottle that hopefully tomorrow if I have enough bottles.
Working on "making bottles" right now as I check out some vintage Art Bell.
Nonsense, but I like to listen to him...Omni Magazine on the radio.
Batch#3 is one week in primary and will probably also shoot for two.

The plan was to get away from store bought beer altogether and establish a routine.
But I don't drink beer fast enough to make all of those bottles...and I don't want to buy any.
Not room for kegging either.
So a couple weeks from now I will have enough bottles for everything to "flow", and should be all HB by the end of March.
Sticking with the simple kits ($30.00 range) DME, LME, some with grains and hops.
So my recipes are growing as I learn.
I did buy an autosiphon...I am not going to risk another bottling disaster like last week.

Nope, guess I live a sheltered life.

...Or I'm just old!
That was standard top 40 fare in the early 70's.

I turned 50 last Monday.
Not really feeling it.
Can't run like I did at 30, but not having too much trouble.

As long as I get my "senior nap".
Don't mess with my nap time!

:)

Alright, have heard it before, just been a long time. For some reason, the first time I listened, seemed like I heard it for the first time. Don't know how that happened.

I'm young... I've been 39 for as long as I can remember. I guess I just listened to the song different and didn't recognize it.

Yum, bacon, yes time for a snack. Who isn't exhausted right now? Need to regroup with some bacon.

There is a simple genius to this plan of yours. Kinda warms the heart to see the evolution happening. I was there last year and now plan to jump to AG BIAB this weekend with Ed Wort's Kolsch.

Evening.

So I tasted my first attempt at a sour today. Tongue lashing menace of a Raspberry. 9 months its collected dust for. Problem is its too sour for the women who I let taste it...

I cant drink this all alone...ideas before I keg it and try to finish it by myself?

Blending.

I don't know what yours tastes like, so it's hard to say. Maybe a brown or blonde... All I can recommend is to experiment.

Like a sweetener free sour patch raspberry with a hint of beer and a hint of that...funk.

edit: How do you define that funk taste of a sour? Sweaty gym sock? lol. Most sours have it...I cannot define it.

You brewed it on purpose? All that food earlier knocked me out. Not sure on this question, old wet towel?

lol. Yup, on purpose. First infection and I gave it to the beer. On purpose. lol. This thing sat on raspberries for 9 months after primary.

I guess you have never tried a sour before. The mildest of them kinda have a wine like quality to them.

The question was, how to make it palatable for mass consumption. Tongue lashers are an acquired taste, I guess. I think its awesome as is.

I have had beer that went sour, but that wasn't on purpose. Took a couple sips, realized it went bad and dumped it. Don't guess I've ever had a true sour. Probably want to bottle that one instead of kegging. Bottle it, then go bury it in the back yard. Wine-like sour beer does not sound appealing at all.

Just a side note, bees will clog an auto-siphon. And bees will fall apart after a couple weeks, so you don't have whole bees in your beer anymore, just bee bits. I think I swallowed a stinger once and that's what made me lose my voice. Painful.

There's a forum here for sours (Lambic and wild brewing). Brett adds that...funk flavor. Lacto adds the sour. I have had a few great wild beers and tried to duplicate. Meh, its good (I am proud for my first attempt) but not competition good. But the women were hoping for the syrup sweet Lindemans Lambic Framboise. There are NO residual sugars in my beer. (1.002). Dry as a desert.

So I just tossed the question in here instead of the lambic forum first, partly just to say thanks for welcoming me into this great thread.

Shouldda left those beers go for a year or two that you dumped! lol.

Now I know... I like to ask questions here too before going out into the general public. But never know what kind of answers you'll get, especially when it's late and no one can find their clothes. :cross: Could someone please refill the hot tub? Maybe this time we can fill it with beer, then we can drink truly funky warm beer until we pass out and a moderator has to come around and drain it again to keep us from drowning. Ahh... this is the life....

Not sure if they are wasps or bees. But they swarm me when I brew outside and get into my beer. Don't know how many of these suckers I've had to pluck from my beer.

Wassup??? Fun time?

Heck ya! Mostly bitters and some milds, but there were some interesting gems in the pile, including a couple porters, a treacle stout (prob my favorite), and a couple American Pale Ales. the "wildest" was probably a UK mild with cherries and chocolate. It was, uhmn, "interesting". The Camra folks were awesome, very friendly and chatty. I was impressed at how intrigued they are with the beer revolution that's been happening in the US.

You can see the pictures here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Boston-Spa-Beer-Festival/189371081975?fref=ts and some pics from the Friday (when I attended) http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151271887896976.451433.189371081975&type=1 (I'm in the teal/turquoise jacket).

Interestingly enough, they serve in half (10oz) or full pints (20oz) only. Yowza. :mug:

Howdy Misplaced, I'm also in Cola.

Also displaced...I'm from Finger Lakes region of NYS.

Sounds powerful!

Looks like a bee ... maybe you should pour a plate of honey and leave it on the other side of the house. Might draw them away from your wort.

Still going to the show today?

That's a wasp called a yellow jacket. AKA meat bee.
5 years of entomology I'm college wasn't for nothing! Look up meat bee trap online. Pretty much suspend meat over water if I remember correctly.

I've not heard the term "meat bee" but that thing sure is a yellow jacket wasp. Angry little fellas.

Oh heck I do the same with my hops while still sober. Lay them out with a piece of paper telling me when to add them.

I started marking my starsan water as well. I buy distilled water for my humidor and have mixed them up in the past. Now it is marked rather clearly which is which:p

Man I blew my back out a couple of days ago. Stupid pain pills are like drinking a 6 pack:(

Hoping it gets better soon so I can brew. Not because I need the beer but dang I am getting bored right out of my head.

No, came down with a sore throat and lost my voice. Barely was able to call friends and let them know, now they aren't even going to stop by here to see me. In case I'm contagious. I'm sure I sounded terrible on the phone. At first they thought I was a prank caller.

Sorry to hear about your back, I hope it heals quickly.
